What are we hearing from candidates? "This is me, and here is what I need!" – Candidates being open and transparent about who they are and what their needs are. In speaking with candidates, they are clearly stating what type of accommodations they may need. If the commute is bad, they will say they want to work from home a day or two. If they are caring for family members, they are not shying away from letting clients know they need a little flexibility in their schedule. They realize the skills they are bringing to the table are needed and feel confident about their abilities to get the job done. They also realize it is a tight candidate market and their quality of life is very important to them. This is especially true for working parents with kids and people just not wanting to commute far distances regardless of the pay increase. What are we hearing from clients? "We need a great hire ASAP!" – Many clients seem to be expanding their accounting groups. However, most say we should have created this position about a year ago. Having been able to get by, they continue to piece it together waiting for the right candidate. Clients do seem to understand the historically low unemployment period we are in and realize they want to hire someone who is going to stay for a while. This is causing clients to consider later career candidates. These candidates seem to have better tenure and longevity as their earlier career counterparts are more interested in going after the next best position that comes along. Also, clients are really stressing a good culture fit. They want to enjoy who they will be working with and want someone likeminded and who gets them and their organization. What am I feeling about the hiring market? Still going strong. – We noticed the hiring market picking up towards the end of last year. The momentum carried into this year and has not stopped. Both clients and candidates seem active. The economy is continuing to do well. Salaries are showing a modest increase compared to their growth over the past couple of years.
