But while all these things are good (especially the coffee pot), most of us never think about what we would do if a true disaster struck during the time we are at work -- the place where we spend more waking hours than anywhere else.
Let's take the case of an earthquake, since that is our most likely Puget Sound area disaster, and the basic things to prepare for if one occurs during our work day apply to many other scenarios as well. Experts tell us that following a big quake -- the kind that could easily happen here -- it is likely that we will not be able to do a lot of things we take for granted.
So what to do? As usual, the best thing is to just remember the Boy Scout motto, and Be Prepared.
None of these things take a lot of time, or money. And none of them can be done as effectively once an emergency has begun. Most tomorrows are just like today - but if you plan ahead, you'll be able to make the best choices for that one tomorrow that is not. |
