What are we hearing from candidates? "I am using AI more every day.” More and more candidates have been letting us know they use AI on a daily basis. Whether it is to help them draft an e-mail, research accounting standards and tax code and their application, automate workflows, or review a contract, it seems they are growing more dependent on AI. This is good news as employers consistently let us know they want candidates who embrace technology and automate processes, so everything runs more efficiently and effectively. What are we hearing from clients? "I need the team back in the office." An increased number of hiring managers are requesting a back in-office presence of at least four days a week. Even some candidates are saying they prefer it because they find themselves working entirely too many hours from home, and they would not stay that late if working in an office. They want to have a separation of home and work again. Although the candidates feeling this way seems to be on the rise, the vast majority still want to be remote to avoid commute times and work around daycare/school drop off and pick up. What am I feeling about the market? "Job hugging is a real thing.” Lately it seems that candidates are hugging onto their jobs given everything going on with the economy. The job hopping for a higher salary seems to have decreased greatly as workers are not seeing higher wages for their positions. The latest government shutdown is adding to candidate angst. Normally, we would give you the September jobs added and unemployment rate from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the primary source for US labor markets and economic data. However, they did not release numbers like they normally do every first Friday of the month due to the federal shutdown. Alternative sources such as FactSet, estimate September added 50,000 jobs and unemployment held at 4.3%.
