What are we hearing from candidates? "Seeking balance - willing to work hard.” Let's face it, it's been a tumultuous year. We've heard first-hand of many companies making do with less in their accounting departments. Whether they made strategic reorganizations or they lost people and decided not to backfill those positions, more and more we're hearing that candidates are overworked and in need of additional balance. These candidates are not afraid of hard work, rather they're being taken advantage of exactly for their exceptional work ethic and they're seeking more balance in their lives. It's hard to hear because most times people love their companies, but they've crossed that thin line between balance and hard work. What are we hearing from clients? "I'm ready to hire… on my own time." We most often start recruiting engagements with our clients when there's an urgent need to fill a role - a void. We take pride in presenting candidates to our clients usually within the first week - no later than 2 weeks. However, many clients have been slow-playing the interview and decision-making process of late resulting in lost candidates and delayed hiring. As we head into the holiday/budgeting/year-end season, it's imperative companies place emphasis on making hiring decisions in a timely manner to avoid them getting pushed out due to seasonal issues. What am I feeling about the market? "AI curious.” I suppose you can label me this way. I'm generally curious about the future of the world in some state where there's AGI. I'm specifically very curious about how AI will affect the world of general ledger accounting up and down the job chain. Every chance I get I gather leaders' prognostications about this future state, and one thing stands out: nobody knows, it's all just a guess at this point. What we do know is that some of the nation's largest employers are cutting thousands of jobs with AI being at least some of the reason. We're not yet seeing this AI effect trickle down to our client base, but that doesn't stop me from being curious about if and when we will see its effects.
